Food is basic. We all have our own way of doing things but some ways are either more efficient or less wasteful then others. Here are 10 foods you’re most likely eating wrong!
Everyone peels a banana from the stem down. However, this could crush the top of the banana or even tear it in half if the banana is too soft. So do as the monkey’s do and open from the bottom up. This makes for 2 sides of peel vs 4 and a whole banana that hasn’t been smashed. Here is a YouTube video that shows it as it should be done.
Eating apples is pretty much second nature to everyone. You eat as much of the flesh as you can and then chuck the core. However, this is an incredibly wasteful method when in comparison you could be eating 15% to 30% more just by flipping the apple on it’s side and eating from the top. Food Beast shows you how on YouTube.
Chinese takeout is all about doing it the easy way. Good food that comes right to your door or that you pick up on the way home. However, you still have to dirty dishes when you want to reheat those leftovers. Or do you? Actually, the takeout box (sans the metal handle) unfolds to be a plate. This means that there’s absolutely no dishes involved (unless you choose fork over chopsticks). This video shows how to do it the right way.
Chicken wings are pretty much a no brain-er You may be covered in sauce by the time you’re done but hacking away as much meat as you can get at with your teeth sure does make you feel like a caveman. However, there’s a better way to do things just by twisting off the cartilage and pulling out the two bones. You go from messy chicken wings to boneless ones in two easy steps. Now you’re not wasting any meat!
Pistachios are a healthy and delicious snack. Plus, there’s something about cracking open those shells that’s just so satisfying! That is until you get to one that hasn’t opened enough for you to wedge your fingernails into them. That’s when you use half a shell from an already cracked pistachio to wedge instead! Easy cracking for more snacking.
Pomegranates are a winter favorite in many circles and the seeds are amazing. However, getting them out of the actual fruit is a messy job. That’s why its much easier (and less of a cleanup hazard) to just submerge the two halves into a bowl a water. The membrane floats to the top and all those yummy seeds sink to the bottom! Watch it happen here.
Ketchup usually comes in those convenient little pouches when you go to a fast food joint. However, some places still use the old pumps with little paper cups. So you usually end up carrying 4 cups to the table just for one small order of fries. That’s because you’re doing it wrong! Unfold the little ridges around the rim and you have yourself three times the ketchup carrying capacity!
Oranges are an amazing summer treat and some people still eat them when the cold weather rears it’s head However, peeling them is time consuming, messy, and if any peel is left behind, ineffective. That’s why with three tiny cuts you can easily just unroll a mandarin orange for easy eating of the delicious segments.
Strawberries are amazing but cleaning and then coring them is a chore that takes forever. Half of the strawberries are bad by the time you get up the time and energy to get around to it. That all changes however, when you use a disposable drinking straw to core the strawberries for you. With one simple push of the straw the insides and the stem are all gone leaving a clean cored strawberry behind.
Oreo may not be the healthiest thing on the planet but they sure are delicious! Dipping them n milk until they’re the perfect mushy consistency brings out the kid in us all.
However, it’s always a bummer when you either lose half a cookie to the bottom of the milk glass or get one half of the cookie perfectly soggy while the other is too hard. In comes the fork!
Just by sliding a plastic fork into the cream between the cookies you can dunk away to the perfect consistency without your fingers getting messy and in the way! It’s pretty awesome, and Instructables shows you how.
